Housing for Tiger the Alley Cat

Tonight we built a cat house for Tiger, the mother of Moonshine. My husband picked up two plastic bins, one fitting inside the other with some room on the side. We filled the bottom with Styrofoam noodles, and the sides with cedar shavings. The entry is a black flower pot of which the bottom was cut off. This allows for the entrance into the bin.  The tube was strategically placed inside the larger bin, which then joined into the warmer, smaller bin. We already have two cats inside the house, and this creation is called an alley cat's house. We did not need to use the blow dryer as the illustration shows. We situated her new home on our backyard deck. Apparently any old dog house can also be converted for alley cat homes. alleycat.org/ShelterGallery has many wonderful ideas for our four legged friends.
I love this short hair, tiger colored cat. We feed her at least twice daily and since it arrived back at our house after Deborah's death from approximately 25 km from our house, she has regained her weight, and finally looks like a healthy cat. Tiger is the cat that gave birth to 4 kittens in our recycling bin last Christmas. Now she can enjoy her winter in a warm, cozy home, without any kittens. The update on Moonshine is that she has recovered from her surgery. Her cone came off this Saturday, and she is spayed successfully.
