I approached the manager of a food store today, which has a role in the rehabilitation of young people with addictions. It is a well run grocery store, in which I can even find my Hungarian kolbassa/pepperoni, and compares with the conventional stores, with a bakery, flower shop and butcher shop all under one roof. The students are courteous, and are generally aged from 18-30. My reason for approaching the manager was to ask them if alongside their rehabilitation, they had some pastoral care, since all of them live in the building next door, and for several months their contact with the outside world is limited, ie television usage etc. I wasn't able to determine if it was similar to a twelve step program or what and if  they do believe in a higher power to call out to. So here below is a little something about them. What struck me is that the manager was totally convinced that these teenagers can do it relying on their own inner resource, and that Jesus is fictitious. I shared with him my testimony of the loss of my daughter, and he did not even say a word. I asked if they had a spiritual angle to their recovery program, and he said that that would instill fear mongering into their clients. According to him, most of the students of this academy have been told things all their lives, and coerced in some way, and spirituality is not something that is on their radar, whatsoever. There are three such facilities, one in Seattle, and one more in Texas. I'm pretty sure you know where I stand on this issue. We are not just physical, intellectual beings but also spiritual. Too bad that a very significant opportunity is missed in these young adults rehabilitation.

  1. This program was the biggest waste of 22 months of my life. When i was there we were running in the dark with changes always being made to the program and without proper counselling many people could't deal with there deepest darkest secrets and miseries from their past. It was almost like a boot camp that instead of making you better...you left more scared, lonely and afraid. My email address is ryanreynolds24@gmail.com if you have any questions or concerns i'd be happy to talk about.
