The 21 Egyptian Martyrs

After this horrific slaughter took place, many believers cried out to the Lord asking WHY would He allow this.  As the ISIS documentary and recruitment video of the event was seen around the world on the internet, the world became intimately aware of the obvious details of the slaughter.  However there is more to the story.  Some of the rest of the story can be seen hidden in the video footage itself. Let’s look at some of the deeper truths of this event:

**These 21 Christian men from Egypt came from the same village.  They had traveled to Libya to get work on construction projects to support their families back home, because of the lack of opportunity for employment in Egypt.

**Confronted with death threats, the 21 remained unflinching against the demands of ISIS. They flatly refused to convert to Islam or to recant their faith in Yeshua.

**An aerial photo taken of the execution site (which was a beach on the shore of the Mediterranean Sea) showed two lines on the sand. One line was all black … the result of the black garments worn by the murderers lined up … each one-on-one, standing behind a man that was to be killed.  The other line was bright orange … the result of the orange jump suits that those, who were about to be killed, were forced to wear.

**Close up video shots of the faces of the Christians revealed that the men were declaring something with their lips as they were being beheaded.  The lips could be read, speaking in Arabic, that Jesus Christ is their Lord.  No one was panicking or crying out for mercy.  They were on their knees, but it was not before ISIS. They were kneeing before their King, steadfastly declaring their allegiance.

**The blood of these martyrs was pouring out onto the sand and into the sea water.

**When the bodies were returned to the home village in Egypt, there was a funeral, unlike all other funerals.  This one was a feast … much like a wedding feast.  The faithfulness of the martyrs was celebrated, and forgiveness for the murderers was declared.

**With the funeral celebration being covered by the media, a mother, who had lost two sons in the slaughter was approached by an interviewer with the question: “What would you do if you saw one of the murderers of your sons walking down the street in front of your house?”  She said that she would go out to meet him … that she would extend her hand, and tell him that she forgives him, because he didn’t know what he was doing … because he lacks the truth.  She then would invite him into her home and seek to pray for him to receive the truth. 

Now, let me unpack some of these details for you a bit, as well as fill you in on some of the fruit that has occurred from this event.  NOTE: These reports are coming from very reliable believers on site in Egypt, so are accurate in their accounting.

**Consider the number of the martyrs … 21. That is 3 times 7.  Three in Hebrew is perfection.  Seven is complete.  21 martyrs tells us something is “perfectly complete” or “completed to perfection” … which indicates that this is a work of YHVH.  The Lord allowed this event, and He chose those, whom He could trust for this assignment, so that the Kingdom of YHVH could expand in the Middle East.

**Remember that the blood of the martyrs flowed onto the sand and into the seawater?  Scripture tells us in Revelation 12 that we overcome by the Blood of the Lamb, by the word of our testimony, and by surrendering our lives unto death, rather than recanting our faith to keep on living.  Those 21 martyrs were ONE (echad) with the Messiah in the fellowship of His suffering and death.  As they were IN Him, and as He was IN them, His blood was mingled with the holy blood of their own sacrifice.  The blood of the martyrs for Yeshua is holy, and it is powerful.  Wherever it touches, revival is released. Martyrs’ blood ALWAYS fertilizes revival. Yeshua’s blood was mingled with theirs as it flowed onto the land and into the sea.  The currents and tides of the sea will carry and is carrying that life-giving blood the full length of the Mediterranean coastline, and to every country connected to it. Just think about that! What a game changer that will be in the region! Libya had better watch out!  There is a power stronger than Islam that has now been poured out upon Libyan soil.

**The announcement of forgiveness, and the joy expressed at the funeral feast, were the visible reality displayed, when the whole nation … and the entire Islamic world … was expecting to see fear, rage, revenge, and gnashing of teeth from the families of the slain.  This evidence of the Kingdom presented another major defeat to ISIS.  The words of the mother, who lost two sons, has caused multitudes in Egypt (and beyond) to wonder how this is possible. Moslems are now asking, “What is this truth … what is this power, that we are lacking!” Suddenly they are seeing that ISIS has come away empty-handed … looking weak and defeated.  Rather than the video being a vehicle to recruit more members, or to terrify potential victims into submission, it has backfired.

**In the aftermath of this massacre, Moslems are starting to consider what Islam is all about, and to consider other alternative beliefs.  Christians, who were misunderstood, are being reconsidered and consulted as sources of truth.  Christians, who were terrified of being killed are seeing the provision of the Holy Spirit in the video; giving peace to those, who are about to be killed for the faith.  A new boldness is emerging as fear is losing ground to faith.

**Perhaps the most exciting thing is the word of the Lord that is emerging after this event; saying that the first blocks of the pavement in the highway (prophesied in Isaiah 20: 23-25), between Egypt and Assyria, have been put into place as a result of this event.  Egypt could be coming into revival on a massive scale.  As Egypt embraces the God of Israel, she will become a strength to Israel.  Truly, we have not understood what the Lord has been doing through this event, which has sadden and shaken our hearts.  YHVH is in charge, and He is doing marvelous things beyond our ability to see or understand.

I suspect that we will be seeing more of these kinds of events and challenges for our hearts and minds to comprehend in the coming days, months, and years. Two difficult scriptures for many believers are the texts, which I have copied below.

Rev. 13:7-9 (NASB)

      7       It was also given to him to make war with the saints and to overcome them, and authority over every tribe and people and tongue and nation was given to him. (NASB)

Wow … it’s hard to think that for a season, it will appear as if the people of YHVH are being defeated.  Having war made against us for our beliefs is a difficult thing; but then to add that we will be overcome in the process is VERY difficult to consider.  We want to think that we will always prevail. In reality we WILL PREVAIL, but not necessarily in the physical or material sense.  Our bodies, our physical freedom, and our material substance may be overcome, but in the spirit we will never be conquered as we cling to the Lord and to His truth.  We are seated in the heavens right now; standing in spiritual victory.  We just need to stay in the proper Kingdom order, reality, and priority. The temporal and carnal will pass away, but the spirit will endure. As we walk and abide in the Spirit, we will always possess the secure, high ground of the Kingdom.  We will not be moved.  Perhaps we need to start letting go of the temporal things that we cling to for security and assurance, and practice holding onto the eternal.

So that we don’t loose sight of the fact that these things are happening with YHVH’s plan fully intact, and for the purpose of coming glory, consider this text:

Rev. 30:1-6 (NASB)

          1       Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, holding the key of the abyss and a great chain in his hand.

          2       And he laid hold of the dragon, the serpent of old, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years;

          3       and he threw him into the abyss, and shut it and sealed it over him, so that he would not deceive the nations any longer, until the thousand years were completed; after these things he must be released for a short time.

          4       Then I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was given to them. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony of Jesus and because of the word of God, and those who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received the mark on their forehead and on their hand; and they came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.

         

Those precious 21 men, whose heads were removed because they held to the testimony of Yeshua, and because of His word, are now seated victoriously in heaven.  They are awaiting the time, when Yeshua will return to the earth to defeat all the enemies, who stand against His reality and sovereignty.  These martyrs will return with Him to rule as His governors across the face of the earth for 1,000 years.  Even when the final battle comes, when satan and all of his forces will finally be cast in the lake of fire, these chosen ones will never taste death again. They are living their eternal victory right now.  They are in the presence of the Lord NOW, and they will be perpetually in fellowship with Him as He rules on the earth and then throughout eternity.  They were chosen for this honor, and they didn’t fail Him. They presented Him with the BEST GIFT and with the greatest honor they could give. Oh, that each of us would do the same!! This recent event of martyrdom has hopefully changed all of us in the true Body of Messiah.  Hopefully it has opened our eyes to see our lives and our deaths in a different life.  Hopefully, it has inspired us to deeper a faith, and caused us to let go of the fear that satan speaks to us constantly.  When Yeshua said that He would be with us TO THE END, He also indicated by His words that He would be with us IN OUR END …
