Best thing we can do; Acknowledge their Feelings

Another important thing I learned at the world suicide prevention meeting from Rachel, is that people with mental disabilities do not want you to solve their problems. They want you to listen to them, and acknowledge their feelings. We have to affirm their feelings, and tell them that they are entitled to feel the way they do. You may not agree with them, or might handle things differently, but they basically want you to sit in silence and hold their hands. WOW!!! Nobody can solve their problem, they cannot escape the glass prison that they are in, and we cannot enter into their world either. The best thing we can do is tell them that they have a right to their feelings, and you are there for them. God Bless you all, and be there for those in need!!
