Mental Health in the Workplace

Dear Maria,

Today, there is more awareness and talk of mental health than ever. But is it enough?

Stigma remains stubbornly attached to mental illness and this holds true in the workplace.  For many who are dealing with mental illness, there is a genuine fear of being “found out,” that disclosure will result in being treated differently, hinder one’s chances of advancement or of being given choice assignments – maybe even losing one’s job.

There are certainly no simple answers or quick fixes for this challenge. But the tide is turning.

Companies and organizations are stepping up like never before to tackle this issue head-on.  They are taking concrete actions to shatter this stigma, and to make employee mental health and well-being a priority.

And these actions speak louder than words.

This Mental Health Week, we are proud to highlight the more than 170 workplaces – yes, that’s right … 170! – who are taking part in our Not Myself Today workplace mental health initiative this year. Click here to check out the list.

These forward-thinking organizations – from small to large-size – are openly and proudly supporting mental health and those facing mental illness.  They are prioritizing their employees’ mental well-being and are not only talking about the issue, but backing that up with meaningful action.

We thank these 170+ companies and organizations for leading the way. Are you ready to show your leadership to make our workplaces more mentally healthy? Find out how you and your organization can be part of this movement for change.

Sincerely,

Jeff Moat
President, Partners for Mental Health
