BOMBOGENESIS

Scientists and climatologists have coined out new names for unprecedented crazy storms and weather patterns that have hit parts of the world this 2018, parts of the Northern Hemisphere were mostly affected, especially Canada, USA, Europe, and Asia.
The most interesting one for me is the name they gave a severe storm in the USA; they called it
BOMBOGENESIS.

What are they trying to say - naming a terrible storm?
