President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo is scheduled to deliver humanitarian aid to Mount Agung evacuees during his visit to Bali on Tuesday.
“The President’s assistance is in the form of various goods worth more than Rp 7.1 billion [US$ 530,643.35],” Social Affairs Ministry’s social security and protection director general Harry Nikmat said, according to Antara in Jakarta on Tuesday.
He said the aid package included 5,000 blankets, 18,230 mattresses, 520,000 masks and 12,000 kilograms of rice.
Harry added that based on various sources, it was found that 59,820 people, who live in areas affected by the Mt. Agung eruption, have taken refuge at several evacuation points in areas across Bali.
The Social Affairs Ministry has previously channeled emergency relief assistance and mustered personnel from various sectors of society, such as the youth volunteer group, Taruna Siaga Bencana.
The ministry has also set up public kitchens at 10 points, namely Candi Kuning in Bedugul, Tabanan; Bangli; Denpasar City; Klungkung 2; Klungkung 3; Sueca Pura Sports Stadium in Gelgel; Bandem in Karangasem; Ulakan; Karangasem and Tembok Buleleng.
After inaugurating Semarang-Surakarta toll roads’ third section, that connects Bawen-Salatiga, President Jokowi and First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo will continue their trip to Bali. They are scheduled to depart for Bali from Ahmad Yani International Airport in Semarang, Central Java, at 5:15 p.m. local time.
Agrarian and Spatial Planning Minister Sofyan Djalil and Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung are accompanying the President. (dra/ebf).
