Deborah Gordon Rest In Peace.

My Darling is watching my every move. I wonder if she is cheering for me that I would be raptured as a Bride and not just as a Guest to the Wedding Feast of the Lamb. I know that the party in Heaven has already begun for the servants of the King, just like King Artaxerxes threw a party for all the servants before the wedding to Esther in the Old Testament. Then on Roshashana, Feast of Trumpets, Christ will be seated on His Throne in Heaven, so He can receive His Bride unto Himself. Jesus must be annointed and seated on the Throne before the Bride departs to Heaven. The parties have started. Our reunion is taking place this 120th Jubilee. Gen 6:3, Heb 9:28.. Rev 12;5. Everything has been rehearsed in the Old Testament. There is nothing new under the sun. Be sorber, awake, and Watch! Rev3;3 All we want is for the King to say, well done thou good and faithful servant. Soon the night is coming when we can work no more. I can't wait! How about you?

What Not to say When Your Friends Are Hurting

What Not to Say When Your Friends Are Hurting

How you might be using a new kind of profanity and not even know it.

BY BRIAN KAMMERZELT LIFE July 07, 2014
“I know you feel alone, but remember, you are never alone because God is always with you.”
Why do we do that? Why do we respond to someone’s vulnerability and present experience in this way?
We often say such things when we don’t know what to say. Or when we really don’t care enough to get involved. When we want the tense moment to pass so we can move on. As true as the above reply may be, when used that way we are disrespecting a moment of connection. That person likely presently feels physically and emotionally alone.
Eternal Truths were never to be used like smoke-bomb escape techniques or a magician’s trap door. They are to be held as holy and communicated with veneration. We should never say them simply because we don’t know what to say.

”I Will Pray for You.” Prayer is far too great an intimately holy gift to reduce to a get-out-of-the-moment free card. Don’t say you will if you won’t. Pray with them right then. Or ask how you can pray for them.

”You Should Read This Verse.” The Bible is certainly is a Living Word, but proof-texting someone’s pain is simply poor form. You should be looking to be living reference to the Truths in Scripture, not using Scripture to pass someone off.

”God Has Something Better Planned.” God does not owe us anything. He may have something far worse in store—and that has to be OK too. There is a reason Job is the oldest book of the Bible. Instead of shifting attention to an unknown future, help them see God at work in the present experience.

”God Won’t Give You More Than You Can Handle.” That is simply not true. Many experience far more than they can handle alone. Drawn from 1 Corinthians 10:13, not only is this verse specifically about temptation but has a corporate context. Sometimes people need help. If you find yourself saying this they are probably asking for help from you.

”You are Not Alone Because God is Always With You.” Again, true, but if someone is expressing a profound loneliness they are looking to you to help lessen it and learn to know God’s sustaining presence. Too much of our theology is dismissive of the here and now. Be present in the moment with them.

”Everything Happens for a Reason.” This well-meaning statement may have become the most “nothing” response to a painful situation. It does not mean anything and is clearly said more to alleviate not knowing what to say than their pain. Resist the urge to dodge the moment or provide something that sounds like an answer. Know that just being there is often enough.
When we force “capital ‘T'” truths into the “lowercase ‘t'” truths of someone’s present experience we squeeze out their humanity—making both feel like a lie.
Sacred Truths were never meant to cover up or hide the truths of what someone is experiencing in the here and now. It makes a person’s present experience feel pointless and meaningless, amplifying loneliness or frustration.
Irreverent to both the Truths we intend to share and the person we are commanded to love, it’s sacrilege. In that respect, more than lame platitudes, such statements become a new kind of profanity. “Profane” can be defined as “to treat something sacred with irreverence or disrespect.”
Vulnerable moments are sacred spaces to be treated with the utmost reverence and respect. We far too often desecrate it with christianese graffiti, recklessly applying theology we misunderstand and treating it like a method to be applied to a solvable situation.
Better someone offer up a traditional four-letter “swear word” out of shared lament than reduce deeply held beliefs into platitudes thrown at pain. We should find this type of profanity far more offensive and treat it accordingly.
When you say such things in this profane manner your impulse should be to throw your hand over your mouth and apologize profusely as if you just let an “F-bomb” slip out at the most inappropriate time. If you find yourself dropping this new profanity, stop, apologize and begin again.
So, the next time someone dismissively “encourages” you to wrestle through this season in the journey God has you on, tell them to watch their mouth. I’ll get the soap.

10 Signs you're Attending a Great Church

Went to a Great Church, Calvary Worship Center in Surrey with my student and husband. Many people went forward to give their heart to Jesus. Powerful Message on Dreams.

10 Signs You’re Attending a Great Church

I love the church. She is Christ’s bride and the key to cultural transformation. In that sense, every church is great. But let’s be honest, there are a ton of churches that leave much to be desired when it comes to truly making a difference in their congregations and communities. So, when you plug into a church that is getting it done, it’s a true blessing.
Of course there are no perfect churches, but there are many that are pressing toward the high water mark we see in Scripture.
Here are 10 signs you may be going to a great local church:
1. It is lead by a team of godly leaders not a Lone Ranger pastor who gathers Tonto-type leaders around him to say “Yes, Kemo Sabe” to his each and every idea (Titus 1:5-9).
2. The Gospel is central to every sermon, program and meeting (1 Corinthians 15:3,4) and the advancement of it both locally and globally drive strategic initiatives (Acts 1:8).
3. People are using their spiritual gifts not just watching the “stage team” exercise theirs (1 Corinthians 12:12-31), resulting in disciples being made and multiplied (2 Timothy 2:2).
4. It, like the early church, is integrated, fully representing the demographic of the community in which it resides (Ephesians 2:11-21). By the way, my buddy Derwin Gray has got a lot of great material (blogs, sermons, etc.) on this particular point.
5. Love, demonstrating itself in friendliness, generosity, internal/external care programs and community involvement, dominates the atmosphere (1 Corinthians 13:1-8).
6. Most likely there is a thriving small group program where members truly can have great biblical conversations, share struggles and pray with/for each other (James 5:16).
7. The people are being inspired and equipped to share their faith relationally, resulting in more and more new believers being added to the church (Acts 2:47).
8. The teaching/preaching is biblical, theological and immensely practical (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 4:1-4).
9. Ministry to children and teenagers are top priorities, not afterthoughts (Titus 2:1-8; Deuteronomy 6:4-9).
10. Intercessory prayer fuels everything. It’s the engine, not the caboose, of how the church rolls from top to bottom (1 Timothy 2:1-8).
These are 10 signs you may be going to a great church. What are some other signs?

Please note: Many have only part of the picture correct. You have to do your own research. Please refer to Steinman's book if you want accuracy. I feel he has the most comprehensive understanding of prophecy to be fulfilled. What is truth, is that we are leaving this fall.. this fig tree generation is leaving 63 days left till Yom Kippur. Roshashana this year is the coronation of Jesus in Heaven. He will be seated on the Throne, on which we will join Him 8 days later. The solar eclipse that is occuring is exactly 40 days prior to the Rapture, just like in Ninevah.. 40 days of repentance before God was going to pour out his judgement.. The solar eclipse is our engagement ring.according to Steinman. We have 40 days to repent, be baptised by full immersion in water, and be baptised in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues. Prophecy has been told , so we can discern the time of His return. The verse 'no man knows the day or the hour' is referring to the day Israel was birthed by God as a nation.. He birthed a nation on a single dsy, at which point the count down began.. Rev 3;3.. we will not be caught unaware if we are awake and watch. (paraphrasing)..

Our God is a God of Numbers

This is exciting but how Steve Steinman explains it with proof is even better!

YES, YES, YES, OUR GOD 'IS' A GOD OF NUMBERS
Psalms 90:12 : "So teach us to NUMBER our days, that we may apply our hearts to WISDOM".
Welcome Everybody. Cannot tell you how Prophetically profound the NUMBERS God has revealed to us in 2017 that have never ever been revealed before in one fell swoop, in the history of the world when they are all grouped into ONE report here in this "NOW", Three Part Series. PTL, I, a Statistician, when I came across this report "COUNTDOWN REPORT" and merged it with the Prophetic NUMBERS I've researched. Well words like KOWABUNGA, Say it ain't so Sammy, and Coincidence Schmoincidence cannot hold even the wick of a candle to the Power and Glory of God who's telling us He's wrapping this 6,000 year old world up in a blanket this year, God willing.
Just look at these most glaring and astounding NUMBERS all categorized below ALL PROPHETICALLY LANDING IN YEAR 2017, that should tell us all that our Creator, welll, HE'S DONE WITH EARTH AS WE KNOW IT, in 2017. Why? Just LOOK :
A. God's Prophetic #7, meaning biblically : "Resurrection, Spiritual Completion. Yeah Boy, Resurrection, as in Rev. 12:5, day of Virgo Alignment 9/23/2017 which says : "And the Child was CAUGHT UP UNTO GOD". Yeah Boy again as this Heavenly Sign is the ABSOLUTE LAST & GREATEST Heavenly Sign in YOUR BIBLE. Look, Hear, Believe, WE ARE THERE, in this Prophetic year 2017:
1. 2017 is 70 years from 1947 to rebirth of Israel. ("Officially" recognized 5/14/1948 with UN).
2. 70 years Anniversary of Dead Sea Scrolls
3. 70th Jubilee since Israel entered Canaan (70 x 50 yrs. per Jubilee).
4. 70th Jubilee since Exodus in 1483 BC.
5. 726 days from 4th Biblical Blood Moon 9/28/2015 to 9/23/2017, Virgo). By the by, 726 Biblical meaning = To snatch up. I did not believe this till I researched it. IT IS. To God be all the Glory.
6. International Day of Peace at the United Nothing is 9/21/2017. I mention this because this is the Feast of Trumpets. Day 2. First thing out of the gate what I think of is 1 Thes. 5:3 : "When they shall say Peace and Safety, then sudden destruction cometh". And when the UN brags that their Theme is : "Together for PEACE, SAFETY. RESPECT and DIGNITY for ALL in 2017". Welll, Katie Bar the Door with Iron, Lead and Steel, it's over. Thank you Dear Lord for
this phrase for giving us WISDOM as in opening scripture above.
7. In Trump's first day in office, he was 70 YEARS old, 7 MONTHS, and 7 DAYS.
8. Trump was inaugurated 1/20/2017 with exactly 77 Electoral votes over Crooked Hillary.
9. His Electoral vote count was 304 where 3 + 4 = 7. Friends, why else would I spend so much time tallying these things for verification. You can do the same. You judge, you verify, I tell you I'm S-O-L-D on the RAPTURE WINDOW from Sept. 9 to Oct. 11th, God willing.
10. On Nov. 14th, 7 days after election eve, 11-7-2016, was the largest Supermoon in 70 years. WOW!
11. Trump's birthday, June 14, 1946, was on the night of a Lunar Eclipse, EXACTLY 700 days before Israel's rebirth.
12. Trump was 777 days old EXACTLY 77 DAYS after Israel became a nation.
13. Trump started the 57th Presidential term in American history. Which happens to be year 5777 on God's Biblical calendar. And to boot Betsy, V.P. Mike Pence was 57 years old.
14. Trump attacked Syrian airport on his 77th Day in office.
15. Vladdy-Prince of Gog-Putin, born Oct. 7, 1952 was 777 months old when this most powerful leader in the world met the other most powerful leader in the world, Trump, 7/7/17, at the G-20 in Germany.
16. And their meeting was 77 DAYS from the Rev. 12 Sign of Virgo on 9/23/17. All you need is a calculator, paper, and pencil. That's all I used. It's Math 101.
Because of brevity for a normal F/B post, I must stop here. Sooo, much more, cannot tell you how much more, other than I must report to you a new Part III of how truly our God is a God of NUMBERS and that we in the Season of Return. WOWLAPALOOZA, please tune in on next post.
Friends, may you arm yourself with "WISDOM" from this post on the magnificence of God's NUMBERS. And Skoochee "SCARAMUCCI", to all that Astrology number stuff, I just realized the following numbers on this post today, "7/27/17", that we are "57" DAYS to Virgo. So help me Lord, I just fell into this in closing.
Proverbs 19:20 : "Hear counsel, and receive instructions that thou mayest be 'WISE' in thy LATTER END". Yeppp, LATTER END IS HERE FRIENDS.

My usual trip to Lonsdale

Today, I took my student on a tested trip to the Waterfront station by skytrain, and then Sea Bus to Lonsdale Market in North Vancouver. Seeing the two Bridges from the Train, and Sea Bus; The Patullo from which my girl Deborah jumped, and the Lion's Gate Bridge  from the Sea Bus, made my heart stop again. All I could see was the shoreline where her body was found. As much as I tried to avoid seeing where she must have jumped from, I underestimated when I looked, thinking that we had passed the bridge already and we were in New Westminister. So again, sadly, I saw the area on the pedestrian walkway where Deborah must have jumped. Her third anniversary is coming up August 18. I know her friends are already preparing for the candle vigil under the bridge.
I am not going. To me it is too turbulent of a spot to give me any healing or comfort. Then I watched the Lion's Gate. So many people who have taken their lives from there, painfully passed on the pain to the surviving families.  Basically, their bodies will wash out to the ocean with very little chance of providing any closure to the families. How sad. This carries on, without any reports on the news. It carried on during the day or night. Taxis stop in the middle of the bridge, letting the troubled customers out, or some even drive themselves to the middle of the bridge with their own vehicles. So continually I struggle with bridges; all bridges.
We had a bowl of soup there, watched some dancers perform who attend school at Lonsdale, and bought some dream catchers from South America. I was exhausted by the time we got home. I slept, then got up to water the grass seed sprinkled on my front yard. The water leak is fixed, now waiting for the grass seeds to grow back.

La Machine’s spider and dragon-horse captivate Ottawa

Mythical monsters are roaming the streets of Ottawa this weekend in a street art performance called La Machine. It's an impressive show meant help people rediscover their own city. Mike Le Couteur explains.
A A
La Machine’s dragon-horse Long Ma and spider Kumo have emerged from hiding in Ottawa, drawing enormous crowds to the nation’s capital.
Kumo awoke Thursday night after a tense, 40-minute wait outside the city’s Notre Dame cathedral. She was lifted by crane down off the building after her operators rappelled down from another crane in a spectacular aerial display.
La Machine had to get special permission from the city’s Catholic archbishop to launch the spider from atop the church.

On Friday morning, it was Long Ma’s turn. The dragon-horse awoke outside city hall in the presence of Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson (with help from the tickle of a feather) and proceeded to stomp, roar and fume his way through the downtown core toward Kumo.

Hundreds of thousands of people were expected to turn out for the displays, which continue for the next three days, and Ottawa did not disappoint. The throngs stretched into the tens of thousands, filling the streets that have been closed down for the unique, $3.5-million event.
La Machine is a performance company based in France. They were convinced to select Ottawa for their North American debut this week, as part of the city’s contribution to Canada’s 150th birthday celebrations.
Ottawa 2017 executive director Guy Laflamme has been working with La Machine’s artistic director, François Delarozière, for years to bring their vision to life.
“This is not a parade, this is monumental street theatre,” Laflamme explained last week, adding that he wants to see people experience the spectacle through the eyes of a child.

Traffic throughout the downtown core will be significantly disrupted until late Sunday night as the machines carry out a series of “walkabouts” leading up to a climactic battle on Sunday outside the national war museum.

VANCOUVER - Drug users in Vancouver now have the option of using a third federally sanctioned supervised injection facility.
The service will be provided daily starting Friday at the Powell Street Getaway, a drop-in centre for people living with mental health and substance use challenges.
Health Canada granted the centre an exemption to the country's drug laws in May and completed an inspection this week.
British Columbia's Mental Health and Addictions Minister Judy Darcy says the aim of the service is to prevent overdose deaths and connect people with needed services.
Insite opened in the same neighbourhood as a stand-alone facility in 2003, when a public health emergency was declared over high rates of HIV in the Downtown Eastside.
Another facility, at the Dr. Peter Centre, has also allowed medically supervised injection for years, but the facility did not receive exemption from drug laws until last year.

New Mortgage regulations in Canada

I feel really sad for the millennial's, who can't qualify to buy a home. I sure hope a crash comes about soon.
Exactly one year after OSFI said it would review its B-20 guidelines and scrutinize underwriting standards further, the banking regulator made good on that promise.
The Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OSFI) released various proposals on Thursday to further tighten mortgage underwriting standards at federally regulated lenders.
The biggest change is the implementation of a stress test for all uninsured mortgages (those with a down payment of more than 20%). Under current banking rules, only insured mortgages, variable rates and fixed mortgages less than five years must be qualified at a higher rate. That rate, of course, is the Bank of Canada’s posted rate (currently 4.64%, a few points higher than typical contract rates). Going forward, it will be replaced by a 200-basis-point buffer above the borrower’s contract rate.
The other proposed changes include:
  • Requiring that loan-to-value measurements remain dynamic and adjust for local conditions when used to qualify borrowers; and
  • Prohibiting bundled mortgages that are meant to circumvent regulatory requirements. The practice of bundling a second mortgage with a regulated lender’s first mortgage is often used to get around the 80%+ loan-to-value limit on uninsured mortgages.
Industry experts, however, say this change would impact less than one percent of all mortgages in Canada.
The extension of stress testing to all uninsured mortgages would have a far greater impact. It would shut many borrowers out of the market, drive them into less suitable housing, or send them into the arms of credit unions or sub-prime lenders that are not federally regulated.
Mortgage Professionals Canada, for its part, has expressed objections to the proposed regulations.
“We have initial concerns with the impact the 2% stress test will have on Canadian consumers and questions around the uncertainty that the dynamic Loan-to-Value (LTV) measurements may have in the marketplace,” it said in an email to members.
OSFI said its proposed changes will be available for public input until August 17, 2017. Feedback can be sent via email to B.20@osfi-bsif.gc.ca.
The updated B-20 guidelines for mortgage underwriting will be issued in the fall and come into effect shortly thereafter, OSFI said.
“The draft changes to Guideline B-20 released today are consistent with messages that OSFI has been delivering through public statements and in direct conversations with federally regulated financial institutions through our supervisory work,” said Carolyn Rogers, Assistant Superintendent, Regulation Sector.
The proposals are just the latest in a long line of changes to how mortgages are written in Canada. The government began its regulatory tightening campaign nearly nine years ago to “reduce the risk of a U.S.-style housing bubble developing in Canada.” (Those were the words of the Department of Finance in 2008.)
Here’s a brief history of some of those key mortgage rule changes:
  • January 1, 2017: OSFI imposed onerous capital requirements on default insurers, thus disadvantaging many bank competitors (and consumers) by jacking up rates substantially on low-ratio insured mortgages.
  • November 30, 2016: New stress test regulations were extended to include insured mortgages with 20% equity or more. It also banned certain mortgage types from being insured, including refinances, extended amortizations and single-unit rentals.
  • October 17, 2016: The federal government introduced a stress test to be used in approving all high-ratio insured mortgages with terms of five years or more. It required such borrowers to prove they can handle payments at the Bank of Canada’s posted 5-year rate (currently 4.64%).
  • February, 2016: The Department of Finance announced it was increasing the minimum down payment from 5% to 10% on the portion of a home’s price that’s above $500,000.
  • November, 2014: OSFI releases its B-21 guidelines, which set out insurer restrictions on everything from debt-ratio calculations and self-employment evaluation to borrowed down payments and cash-back mortgages.
  • July 9, 2012: The government reduced the maximum amortization period to 25 years for high-ratio insured mortgages, limited the gross debt service and total debt service ratios permitted to 39% and 44%, respectively, banned mortgage insurance on properties over $1 million and implemented a maximum 80% LTV for refinances.
  • March 18, 2011: Regulators introduced a 30-year maximum amortization on insured mortgages over 80% LTV, an 85% loan-to-value limit on insured refinances and eliminated government insurance on secured lines of credit (e.g., HELOCs).
  • April 19, 2010: The government introduced stress testing for insured mortgages using the Bank of Canada’s 5-year posted rate. Other key changes included a 90% LTV max. on refinances (down from 95%), and an 80% LTV maximum for rental financing.
  • October 15, 2008: The first mortgage rule changes announced by the government eliminated 40-year amortizations (dropping them to 35), raised the minimum insured credit score, added a new maximum total debt service ratio of 45% and additional loan documentation standards.

Sparkling Deborah Poem

Coming Up Soon to August 18th Again if Jesus tarries. My dear friend Lanny has also lost her beloved Niece Deborah just recently. Please pray for her family for God's Peace and Comfort. Her Deborah was an only daughter, and grand-daughter. She sadly was into drugs.

Sparkling Deborah Poem By Lanny Townsend

Poem by Lanny Townsend used by permission, and read at her funeral by her 3 surviving sisters,
 Elizabeth, Erica and Sarah.

Sparkling Deborah
Deborah of the sparkling eyes, deep dimples, and dazzling smile,
What were you thinking, dear girl, when you went through your last trial?
You left us clues, as you searched the Bible to soothe your cares;
Highlighted verses are windows to your thoughts, witnesses to your prayers.
We are comforted that, though you stumbled and fell,
You looked to Jesus to save you from sin and Hell.
He forgave you; we know that it is true;
He came into your heart, with its walls that were painted blue.
Such a sad, sad heart, such a troubled mind,
Triggered by a drug that promised good times you’d find.
You yearned to be accepted and to have fun with your friends,
And became deceived, like many, by youthful trends.
Jesus spared your life, after drugs sent you in a spin.
And gave you time to repent of each besetting sin.
You reached for His hand, and He led you through His Word;
Twice you read His Book, and much in it you heard.
What a comfort to us now, to see the words you underlined.
And know that your name in the Book of Life is signed;
Written there by the blood of Jesus Christ, our Lord;
We know His grace and mercy, upon you He has poured.
You were just starting to walk the path of the wise,
And were too unlearned to discern the deceiver’s lies.
You thought that waters of baptism would your confusion all unwind,
And instantly produce a miracle of healing for your mind.

Significant and powerful, baptism is indeed,
But it is through faith that we get what we need.
It is not through feelings, nor experiences, nor the reasoning of our brain,
But through constant trust in God’s Word, the victory we gain.
God understands what drove you to the decision you would make,
And allowed the enemy of your soul, your precious life to take.
But He did not let him keep it, when you plunged into the water;
He caught you in His arms, His beloved, redeemed daughter.
Now you live in Heaven, where all your fears are washed away;
And you are free to love and laugh and play.
Though our heart sorrows for the loss of our dear girl,
We know you are now safe within the gates of pearl.
We cherish memories, of how you loved cookie dough ice cream,
And how you could sing and play music like a dream.
Your favourite colours were blue and pink, and you liked the dollar mart;
Pink roses and red roses, and perfume charmed your heart.
You had a photographic memory, and a photogenic face;
Your athletic ability and energy set a lively pace.
Swimming was a favourite sport, and chess a favourite game;
Which your Grandpa taught you because you were such a clever dame.
But kindness was part of you, and generosity, as well.
And humour, too, for silly jokes you liked to hear and tell.
Family and friends were high priorities on your list;
Oh, dear girl, how sorely you will be missed!

But when the tears start to run, we will wipe them with a smile,
As we remember the blessing you were, when we had you for a while.
We will think of you when we hear Hillsong’s tunes,
And when spring returns each year with its pretty blooms.
We will recall how you organized our closets and our drawers,
And how you loved dogs and kittens and willingly did your chores.
Brindle pup and Moonshine kitty will join you in Heaven someday;
Look after them for us, Deborah, until we come Home to stay.
Let our family circle be unbroken in that celestial realm;
We know our ship will make it, as long as we keep Jesus at the helm.
We don’t fully understand God’s ways or know all His plans,
But everything will work out, as we remain in His strong hands.
We will look into our Saviour’s eyes, and all our pain will be no more,
As it is now for you, gazing upon Him whom you adore.
Revel in His embrace, as you to dance among the stars above;
We release you to His tender care and never ending love.

A Frank Discussion on Suicide and Depression

A frank discussion on suicide and depression.
by Lanny Townsend used with permission.
A young girl of my acquaintance took her life. She was only 19 years old. Deborah had
a loving family, she was beautiful and talented, and had everything to live for, so why
did she do it? Despair. But what brought on this despair? She took a synthetic drug that
triggered psychosis. Where is she now? I believe that Deborah is in Heaven. But not
everyone who commits suicide goes to Heaven.
Many Christians would say that it is impossible for a suicide to go to Heaven, but God
considers more than just the act itself when He judges a situation. He considers the
person’s ability to think rationally. Deborah’s brain was injured, and, in addition to the
injury, she was on medication that made her feel like a zombie. I know what that is
like.
I experienced it in 1986, after my husband left me, and I suffered a nervous
breakdown, as a result. My emotions had become too painful to deal with, so I buried
them where I couldn’t feel them. The absence of emotions is like being dead while still
walking around, but I was blessed to get healed from this problem. My emotions came
back and, in spite of their painful intensity, I thanked God that I was able to feel again.
It reassured me that I was still human.
Even so, during that time, my life was in a holding pattern. I wanted to die to get relief
from that sense of being in limbo, and I think that Deborah felt the same. She had been
a fun-loving teen who wanted to party, but woke up one day in shock to find herself in
hospital due to horrific side effects of drug use.
It’s not just synthetic drugs that are dangerous; all recreational drugs are dangerous.
They kill brain cells, impair judgment, and, if their use becomes habitual, they cause
users to regress emotionally. Deborah was very sorry that she had damaged herself in
this way and she was desperate to be healed.
Deborah turned to the Lord Jesus at this time. She put a lot of hard work into trying to
get her life on track through reading the Bible. She read it from cover to cover twice in
only a four month period, underlining many verses that stood out to her as especially
significant in her situation. She attended church, made connections with other
Christians and spent time with them, and she arranged to be baptized.
It seemed that she had hopes and expectations that her baptism would bring about the
healing of her brain that she longed for. She thought she would instantly feel different
when she came out of the water.
The Christian walk, though, it not a walk that is based on emotions or on supernatural
experiences. It is a walk of faith, trusting in the truth of God’s Word, and Deborah was
too new in her faith to realize this.

It is a statement that goes out to the spiritual realm, announcing that the person
has committed their life to Jesus Christ. Water baptism brings the person into a
greater realm of faith, but the knowledge of how much more powerful a
Christian is than the forces of darkness is something that a Christian learns as
they dig deeper into God’s Word, meditate on it, and walk in their covenant
rights. Some Christians catch on quickly and see miracles happen frequently
through their prayers, but for some, it takes longer to purify their faith to that
extent.
Hope deferred makes the heart sick. When Deborah felt no different after her
baptism, she thought that it either meant she would never be healed, or that it
would be a very long time before she got healed. The pain of these prospects
was more than she thought she could endure.
Is God going to judge her for not being able to make it across the chasm? What
difference is it, if the reason for one’s death is because they had a broken leg
and it’s weak or because they had an injured brain and were confused?
Deborah repented of drug and alcohol use and demonstrated, in various ways,
that she wanted to live for God. I believe that, though it certainly was not God’s
will for Deborah to take her life, in His mercy, He allowed it to end her pain.
Does that mean that I endorse euthanasia? Absolutely not!
Who are we to judge how much pain a person can endure,
to assume that they are weak, when they may be capable of enduring more than
they think they can, and their pain may actually be a turning point in their life?
It may be the very thing that, at long last, makes them cry out to God and
receive Jesus as the Savior of their soul, if not their Healer. And there is the
possibility that, if they look to Him as their Healer, as well, they will be healed
and God glorified by their miracle, and that person may go on to do some
amazing things in their life.
It’s a grievous sin to take one’s life, but if a person doesn’t know what they are
doing, it’s not the same. That doesn’t give anyone an easy out, though. God
judges each case separately, and you may not pass His inspection when He
looks deep into the soul.
If a person figures that, if they take some drugs and scramble their brains, then
if they kill themselves, they won’t be held responsible because they didn’t
know what they were doing, it won’t wash. God is likely to consider what they
were thinking before they took the drugs and judge the intentions of their heart
at that point.
One of the things that helped me get through my nervous breakdown is that I
learned very soon in my walk with Jesus that I had to rely on what the Word of
God says, and not how I feel. A pastor explained it to me like this: Faith is like
the engine of a train, experience is the boxcar, and joy is the caboose. Joy
cannot be the engine because we don’t always feel joy.
Experiences cannot be the engine. What happens if you don’t get the
experiences you want to receive, such as a healing, or financial provision, or a
restored relationship? Faith will keep the train rolling along the track,
regardless of delayed answers to prayer, or if we asked for something that
wasn’t good for us to have, or when we feel depressed.
Depression makes people behave irrationally; it blows problems way out of
proportion. It is trusting in what God says in His Word that puts things in
proper perspective and helps us see what to do about them. Problems are never
solved by alcohol or drugs or other escapes; it just adds to one’s problems.
Deborah found herself saddled with mental illness due to drug damage.
She was sorry that she took drugs. She repented. If a person breaks their leg
due to taking on a foolish dare, it’s a sin, but they can repent of behaving
foolishly. They still have to deal with the broken leg, though.
Normally, a person with a broken leg would give it time to heal before they
jump again on a trampoline or hop over a fence or enter a race. If
circumstances press them into vigorous activity before that leg is healed, such
as they have to leap across a chasm to save their life, and they don’t make it
because their leg is not strong enough, they are not at fault in their death.
God does not say, “Well, if you hadn’t taken that stupid dare and broken your
leg, you would have been able to make it to the other side.” No, when He
forgives, He also forgets their sin. All He sees is that His child was in peril and
needed to leap across the chasm, but they were impaired by their broken leg.
Deborah tried to leap across a chasm from childhood to adult responsibility, but
she didn’t know how she could make it. She could learn skills, but she couldn’t
cope in the workplace, unless her brain was healed, which would increase her
ability to reason and to control her emotions. She really didn’t want to die; she
wanted to live, but she wanted to live as a healthy person who could handle
normal life. She wanted her baptism to heal her and help her be the fully functioning,
responsible person that she longed to be. She wanted baptism to be
the barricade that would keep her from ending her life.
Baptism is a very significant and powerful event in a person’s life, but it
doesn’t work that way. It has nothing to do with the emotions; it relates to a
person’s will. Also, even if a person is mentally ill, God knows to what degree their judgment
is impaired, and it may not be as impaired as they pretend it is; they might be
using their illness as an excuse to get away with misbehavior that they are
actually able to control.
God forbid that anyone would take such a risk with their precious soul. Eternity
is for a long time. If a person ends up in the bad place, there’s no way out.
Suicide rarely ends one’s suffering. Our consciousness never ceases; it either
lives on in the Presence of God, with all its attendant joys, through having
sincerely repented of our sins, or it is cast out into darkness and loneliness and
despair forever through the choice to continue in rebellion against God.
I suppose that nobody can say for certain where Deborah is now, because only
God is adequately equipped to judge souls, but I am comforted that she made
choices and changes in her life, in these last few months, strongly indicating
that she wanted to serve Jesus, and God has been giving comforting signs since
her death that point to a favorable decision made in her case.
I don’t feel that Deborah has actually died, but rather that she has just changed
her address and is living with the Lord. She has left her shell behind, but if we
learn the lessons that God wanted us to learn from her life, we can be with her
again, and with the Everlasting Father, when we cast off our mortal shells.
What lessons can we learn from Deborah’s life? The lessons are personal,
unfolded to us by the Father as we seek Him for the answers to our questions.
