My days are quiet, and get great comfort from our outdoor cat Tiger, the mother of Moonshine. Tiger is one of a kind, so affectionate, still sleeping in a box lined with a woolen blanket. I never thought that such affection would be something that I long for in my senior years. After all, I am a senior. A teller picked up on it in the drug store the other day, and offered me a senior's discount. How funny is that, at 55 you are entitled to a break on your milk and cheese, and necessities.
My married daughter is busy with studies, her final year of nursing school. The two other girls are working for the school district, and my husband is still struggling with health issues. My day's are quiet, and if I spearhead a project, usually it is frowned upon. I fell off a ladder while summer pruning a tree. A few bruises have been uncomfortable, but I am hasty to get over it. I talk with my cousin in Hungary, who tells me that he has much livestock, to tend to. No matter how busy their day is, they go to the cemetery with fresh flowers daily. I was please to hear that my ancestors have a nice graveside, where my grandparents are buried in Fenyeslitke. I envy the simple, but hard lifestyle. The neighborly chats, and visits, the language, the smells and sounds of the countryside. East Hungary is where my father was born, close to the Russian boarder. The Ukraine is primarily Hungarian speaking, as the language was retained after our country was chopped up after the war. Russia today is on the verge of calling in 150,000 soldiers to fight ISIS, see more recent blog.
