A Georgia woman who woke up after three weeks in a coma said her cheating police officer husband shot her in the head and then staged the crime scene to make it appear that she had attempted suicide, according to a new report.
Jessica Boynton, a 19-year-old mother of two young boys, was discovered April 15, 2016, with a bullet in her head lying in a pool of blood in a locked wardrobe closet inside the Griffin, Georgia, home she shared with Officer Matthew Boynton, police said.
Matthew, 20, quickly called 911 and said he had received an alarming text message from his wife, claiming she was going to commit suicide, cops said. He also reported hearing two gunshots and said he was on his way to his house.
Other cops were dispatched to the residence and forced their way inside the locked closet, finding the critically wounded Jessica on the ground.
Shocking bodycam footage released Monday on 11Alive.com shows the cops entering the Boyntons’ home with guns drawn and shining flashlights in darkened hallways.
The six-minute clip also shows them open the closet and attempt to rouse the unconscious woman, whose half-open eyes roll back in their sockets.
“Hang on, sweetie,” one officer says to Jessica.
Other cops are heard saying, “She’s trying to get up,” “Can we get her out to the bedroom?” and “We got to get her out.”
Matthew is nowhere in sight.
The officers found a police-issued .40-caliber Glock belonging to Matthew under Jessica’s body.
Police and Officer Boynton claimed that Jessica tried to kill herself — but after Jessica awoke from her coma weeks later, she fingered her husband as the culprit despite having no memory of the incident.
Others who know the couple say that Jessica wanted a divorce and that Matthew was cheating on her.
The night of the incident, Matthew traded 68 text messages with his alleged mistress, who works as a local dispatcher, phone records confirm.
He sent one text message within minutes of the shots-fired radio call. The message read, “Give me a few. To text back long story. I’ll tell you later.”
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has launched a new probe into the matter.
Matthew has told the bureau’s investigators that his relationship with Jessica was strained and that he had a girlfriend.
