The Snow is Gone
Deborah's sister enjoying the winter wonderland, that just melted yesterday, with the downpour of rain we had. Many roof tops are falling apart from the weight of the snow mixed with the rain. I just heard that a big arena roof top in New Westminster collapsed as well.
Thankfully, our roof is a new one, and so far so good. I even went for a walk around the block with my husband, which I haven't done since we delivered newspapers many months ago. I feel safe on my feet, and must put an effort into getting out more. Frankly, just cleaning the fridge, stove, and washing the floors tends to be enough for me. The next day holds more cleaning, and cooking. I am emptying the freezer slowly, so by spring and summer I can give it a thorough wash and have very little food in my freezer. You never know, we may end up moving. We have much frozen fruit also, that only I tend to like for some reason.
My sweet daughter in the picture above is doing her perceptorship in her fourth year of nursing. She told me that as an emergency department nurse, they only get 1 hr break in the 12 hour shift. I personally, can't imagine this. She will also be not getting paid for 3 months during this perceptorship. A heavy price to pay in order to graduate as a nurse in the end. All I hope is she likes this profession, which hopefully will lead her to other open doors.
Surely, it isn't anything normal to me. If we burn out young lives with jobs like this, we shouldn't be surprised if by the time the baby boomers are in care homes, there will be no nurses left. They will all be on disability insurance themselves, needing care.
