This morning we got a call from our old neighbor from ten years ago. He told us that he was told to be ready to evacuate his home in north Surrey, since our old home was on fire. After some time listening to him, it was obvious that he was shaken up and got little or no sleep last night. There were 5 fire trucks and 4 police cars in our small cul-de-sac. We told him we will drive by and take him out for breakfast at Fresco's restaurant. Good neighbors are rare to find, and we value each other. The stench of smoke filled the entire area. A new crew, came on just as we arrived, and the owners who had just bought the home 5 months ago were there also needing comfort. Later we found out on the news that there were 8 people living in the small house that we outgrew when my four children became pre-teens. Such good memories came to mind. Laughter, games, snowmen, piano's, violin's soft green and aqua, and yellow walls. A carport we enclosed was also a project, where my eldest found her space. Yet, now, completely destroyed by a fire that started in the basement and ended up on the top floor. A complete write off is my guess, as my neighbor saw 8 feet flames coming out from the kitchen window. We had a relatively small fire while we lived there, that put us in a hotel for 6 weeks, I wrote about in a blog long ago. This is a whole lot worse. I tried to encourage the new owners by telling them that they will have a new house, just be patient. The news crew were there as well, and I hope to get the film footage to attach.
