Climber on the Lions Gate shuts down bridge during morning commute


WATCH: The Lions Gate Bridge was completely shut down Wednesday morning, causing frustrations for commuters. As Ted Chernecki reports, it was the result of a climber on the span.

A climber on the Lions Gate Bridge shut down traffic in both directions during the morning commute on Wednesday.
West Vancouver Police say the climber, on the north tower structure, prompted the complete closure of the bridge around 8 a.m.
The person could be seen walking along the suspension cables but it is unclear what the person was doing.
Police say he has been arrested under the Mental Health Act.
WATCH: The Global One helicopter captured a climber walking along the suspension cables during Wednesday’s morning commute. 
Drivers were advised to take the Ironworkers Bridge instead, however, traffic getting to and from North Vancouver was heavily backed up in all directions.
TransLink was diverting buses to the SeaBus but due to the increased volume there were multiple waits for the vessel on Wednesday.
