Have you ever had a narcotic mixed with alcohol, and you acted kind of funny.. or rude? Well , I recently did at a dinner engagement. I had run out of a certain pain medication, and took one of these little babies, hydromorphone, only to be served with a delicious chilled pear cider that I never had in my life before. Well to the embarrassment of my family, I went on talking about everything under the sun..Transgendered models at Victoria's Secret lingerie shows. I talked about how Merkel in Germany is making mega mistakes, to our hosts, who are just getting ready to go to their beloved Germany. I made shocking statements, and it seemed that my family was all for having fun, and pointing out all my silly experiences since my youth to present, including how I once broke up a chain of Hell's Angels Harley riders, complete with horns and all, while driving home in our green minivan on the highway.
I was basically, the clown of the party, and there was no way of stopping the train. At home later in the evening, we all blamed each other. One daughter thought I have lost my ability to discern reality from fiction, since to them the real news is still CNN, and to me it is the alternative media that is the REAL news.
I was blaming my husband for not protecting me and putting an end to all the jokes/or NOT. I blamed a daughter for telling the price of an evergreen palm that I offered to give to the host if they would like it. so on and on and on the night went.
So I am convinced that in hindsight it was the alcohol mixed with my pain medication that I took, in preparation for the long hours of sitting that I may feel, after my hip surgery. So, the baby was thrown out with the bathwater so I felt. Despite the beautiful family and friends gathering, I ended up being in the spotlight in a bad way.
I will call to apologize to these very dear friends, who have been super kind in immeasurable ways since our Deborah passed. I just don't know how to begin; yet. I am so sorry.
