Police in Washington state search for missing Utah woman who had been traveling up the West Coast
An Eden woman’s family is concerned, and police in Washington state are
asking for help from the public as they continue to search for her more
than a week after she was reported missing.
Tracy Ann Lewis, 31, was last seen March 9 at Morning Glory Hotel in
the city of Ocean Shores, according to a Monday news release from the
Ocean Shores Police Department. Lewis reportedly checked out of the
hotel in the morning and was last seen walking north on Ocean Shores
Boulevard. She left her vehicle, which contained all her belongings, in
the hotel parking lot.
Lewis had previously been vacationing with her family in Disneyland and
parted ways with them about Feb. 16, her sister Sadie Lewis said
Monday. Tracy Lewis then drove alone up the West Coast. Her plan was to
go to San Francisco, then to Portland and then return home to Utah, her
family said.
Ocean Shores is more than 100 miles northwest of Portland, the opposite direction from her home.
The family “does not know why she would have gone to Ocean Shores, as she knows no one in the area,” the news release said.
“She just really loves the ocean,” the sister said.
The last time Tracy Lewis communicated with her family from her
cellphone was March 9, Sadie Lewis said. Then, her mother received an
email stating that Tracy Lewis had dropped her phone in the water and
would be communicating solely via email.
Every night at exactly 11, Sadie Lewis said, there would be an email
from Tracy Lewis saying goodnight. The family soon realized that she had
set up her email to send the greeting automatically, that it was “on a
loop” and she wasn’t actually typing it out each night. They then
contacted police, Sadie Lewis said.
Lewis’ parents and sister flew to Ocean Shores to meet with police and
help with the search for her, the news release said, and police set up a
command post at a neighboring motel.
A dozen search and rescue volunteers, three search dogs and several
police officers have looked for Lewis in the area’s nearby dunes, but
found nothing.
Lewis is about 5-foot-5, weighs about 125 pounds and has blond hair and blue eyes, police say.
Anyone with information about Lewis’ case is asked to contact the Ocean Shores Police Department at 360-289-3331.
