UBC international student Louis Gonick was dropped off in Stanley Park before disappearing
It has been almost two weeks since 21-year-old Louis Gonick disappeared and friends and family are getting desperate for any information about his whereabouts.
“You live deep in the hearts of us that have the pleasure of knowing you,” Gonick’s mother, Lupe Carrera, said in a statement through a Spanish translator. “Life has no meaning without you in it.”
WATCH: University RCMP and Louis Gonick’s mother spoke to the press about the disappearance of the 21-year-old UBC student.
RCMP say Gonick was last seen Sunday, April 16. S/Sgt. Annie Linteau, senior media relations officer with “E” Division Communication Services, says they have learned that on April 16, Gonick called a local taxi company and was dropped off in Stanley Park. She said Gonick asked to be let out specifically near the bridge turnout. To date, there has been no evidence Gonick met with foul play but he has not been seen since.
Linteau says Gonick’s last known whereabouts was when he was dropped off near the Stanley Park Causeway at 7:32 p.m. She said they are aware of the fact Gonick may have chosen to disappear or possibly end his life.
He is attending UBC on a scholarship from Ecuador and had been there for about three years.
Linteau says RCMP has reviewed a number of tips about Gonick’s disappearance. An extensive land and sea search has been conducted, involving Coast Guard and Transit Police.
They are asking anyone with information about Gonick to come forward.
“This is very out of character for Mr. Gonick,” said Linteau.
It will be carried live on BC1 and we will be livestreaming it here.
