Prevention Fences on Burrard Street Bridge

We thank you for your patience and understanding as this critical infrastructure is upgraded and safety improvements are made along the Burrard Corridor. 
 
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS MAY
 
Davie Street to Pacific Street
  • Drake to Pacific: 
    Street, cycling and pedestrian improvements continue on west side of Burrard. Traffic is reduced to one lane in each direction. City crews are expected to finish road works on the west side of Burrard between Pacific St. and Burnaby St in mid-February. After completion of the west side of Burrard, City crews will move to the east side and will focus work between Pacific and Drake until May.

     
  • Pacific Street, Thurlow to Burrard: COMPLETE
     
  • Beach Avenue at Burrard Bridge: COMPLETE
 
Burrard Bridge
  • Reconstruction of the existing stairs on the northwest corner of the bridge are nearing completion, with the stairs anticipated to re-open at the end of February. Pedestrians are temporarily detoured via Hornby or Thurlow as an alternate access.
     
  • The west side construction on the new sidewalk, southbound bike path, concrete railings, street lighting and means prevention fencing is nearing completion. Anticipated completion is near the end of February.
     
  • The east side construction will begin near the end of February with a focus on the south half of the bridge.
     
  • Traffic lanes are still reduced from five to three vehicle lanes. The pedestrian and bicycle access is maintained over the bridge.
 
Cornwall to 17th Avenue: 
  • 1st Avenue to 4th Ave: COMPLETE
     
  • 4th Avenue to Broadway:
    Street has been re-paved. Sidewalk, curb and gutter, as well as curb ramp improvements are on-going. Installation of protected bike lanes is scheduled to take place in March 2017. Following the completion of concrete works, new signs and paint will be installed and work will be finalized. Currently all lanes are open for traffic.
     
  • Broadway to 16th Avenue: 
    Curb and sidewalk repairs are on-going, and will be substantially completed by late February with the curb lane closures being removed upon completion.

ABOUT THE BURRARD CORRIDOR PROJECT
 
The City is replacing aging water, sewer and road infrastructure, improving safety for all modes of transportation at the Burrard-Pacific intersection, and providing needed structural rehabilitation for Burrard Bridge.
