Dear Mr. Gordon Clark,
I
have only recently read your article on the encouragement of our
governments to spend their money on mental health, rather than suicide
prevention on local bridges.
As a mother who lost a 19 yr old
daughter to suicide on the Patullo Bridge in 2014, I can only say that
the monies must be spent on both bridge fencing, and mental health
initiatives. Why not tell our Premier to stop legalizing pot at age 19,
when the brains of our youth are still developing till their mid 20's.
Perhaps then there wouldn't be so much psychosis among-st our young..
Write a nice long letter to this part-time drama teacher won't you???
I
don't know how, but the life of an individual's economic impact on
society is worth $1 million dollars. If you save 43 lives, you will have
come up with the 43 million needed for all the nets/fences on these
bridges.
We are a christian family with 3 daughters; thus my
blog 4thentherewas3. As the man who jumped off the Golden Ears and
survived has said, and many tests have proven, would be jumpers do not
return again or seek out the same mode of taking their lives. We are
loosing our youth to mental health issues; I have a daughter who is a
pediatrics nurse. Her acute care beds are taken up by mentally ill
youth. What is the solution? How many more bureaucrats in their towering
offices like Gateway, do we have to fund, and how many more homeless do
we need to see on 135 A street in Surrey, before long lasting solutions
can be found. Trust me dear man, a yellow telephone on a bridge will
not be used to cry out to help, especially if the crisis line is busy.
We need nets, fences and so much more.
A grieving mother.
