Well, today was one of those days when we had surprise visitors. My daughters first cousin, came over to introduce us to his sweet girlfriend from Saudi Arabia. She too has a story to tell, and maybe one day she will write a book. In order for all of us to be present, the visit was on short notice, and we are so glad that we could all meet. My girls haven't seen their cousin since they were but children. So now that they have met as adults, we can hopefully have them over again on Thanksgiving day. It was so nice to connect. Our families are small, and more and more, we are realizing that we need each other. Many turbulent years, but ultimately we are all overcomers in one way or another. I hope the cousins will be there for each other. This is the best we can hope for. Love must win in the end, amidst the storms of life. We must come out of the hurt, the pain, the shattered lives, and rise once again. We have become what we have seen from our past. Little children , like sponges we absorb all the imperfections in life. W ether it is the introvert nature, the shyness, or even the brashness, we become not just our DNA, but the imperfections of our past. It is a miracle that we have all survived.
I often look at the face of a woman who has smoked all her life for instance, or even sun tanned for that matter. I see the shoe leather like skin, and right away relate to her knowing a little of who she is. A man who has drunk for many years, has these spidery red veins in his nose.. Right away, we get a little glimpse into his past. A woman who overdoes her make up, also is very telling isn't it?
We become more vulnerable I think as we age. We are more prone to say what we mean, sometimes to our detriment.
I talked with my mom on the phone at length today. She wants to know when she can come to be with us. She told me to let her know when she should get ready. I was told to keep in mind that all she has is what I saw her in the hospital with.. an underwear, a shirt and slippers. Naked we came into this world and naked we depart. I told mom to get ready, Jesus has spent over 2000 yrs to build us a mansion. I told her we will be young, and not needy. We just hope to have left those whose lives we have crossed a little more cheerful and loving.
