Stronger Together - Navigating the Personal Impacts of Substance Use - Victoria


Stronger Together is a series of dialogues, workshops and learning sessions for families, allies and professionals impacted by substance use. Join us November 28 - December 1 and add your voice and experience. Register now bit.ly/StrongerTogetherVictoria

SCHEDULE of SESSIONS:
  • Nov. 28, 6-8:30pm: Dialogue - Families w/Loved Ones in Active Addiction
  • Nov. 29, 12-2:30pm: Dialogue - Indigenous Families with Loved Ones Affected by Substance Use
  • Nov. 29, 6-8:30pm: Dialogue - Families who have lost a loved one to substance use
  • Nov. 30, 12-2:30pm: Dialogue - Service Providers working with those affected by substance use
  • Dec. 1, 9am - 5pm: Learning Session - Facilitation of a Grief & Loss Due to Substance Use support group
  • Dec. 1, 9am - 5pm: Learning Session - Facilitation of a Support Group for Families Coping with Substance Use
Organized by the British Columbia Centre on Substance Use, BC Bereavement Helpline, Moms Stop the Harm, Island Health Authority, AIDS Vancouver Island, and South Island Community Overdose Network.
The session with Indigenous families will be hosted at First Nations Health Authority (7725 Tetayut Rd, Tsawout Territory). Dialogues and other sessions will be hosted at Royal Jubilee Hospital/Begbie Hall (1900 Fort St).

Honour a Life Celebration - Vancouver: Nov 28th


Kearney Funeral Services is presenting the 26th Annual Honour a Life ~ An Evening of Remembrance, a non-denominational celebration intended to honour the lives of loved ones who’ve passed. If you would like to attend, please RSVP through BCBH to claim a spot to this event (15 spots left!). Respectfully, seating is limited to 6 per family.

Date: Wednesday, November 28th 2018. 6:30pm
Time: 6:30pm
Where: Van Dusen Gardens 5251 Oak Street, Vancouver. BC.
Cost: Free

Support Groups

Homicide Grief Support Group


BCBH will be hosting an 8-week support group in Vancouver for individuals bereaved by homicide in Spring 2019. Groups are limited to 10 people. If you, or anyone you know is interested, please contact us to have your name added to our registration list and we will contact everyone when dates are confirmed. Helpline Holiday Schedule


The Holiday season can be a very emotional time as we are reminded of the memories of lost loved ones. The BCBH office will be closed, but the Helpline will still be served by our gracious volunteers during the week of December 24 - 28 and on New Year's Day. Please encourage anyone who needs support to call us at 604-738-9950. We will return all messages.
Special Events 

December 6th Shoe Memorial


It has been 29 years since fourteen women were selectively killed at the Montreal Polytechnique.With your help, we will remember the over 950 women killed in BC by violence since then and before.

Ceremony is at 1PM at the Vancouver Art Gallery (Robson St. Side)

How You Can Help
Please donate women or girls' shoes to our event. The deadline for pick up or delivery of shoes is November 30.

Restorative Justice Week

On November 18th to the 25th, 2018 is Restorative Justice Week in B.C. (see provincial proclamation). Restorative Justice Week reflects on the value of restorative justice in building safer communities. There are several events taking place throughout the province (see the Events Calendar for details).

Please join the Community Safety and Crime Prevention Branch in celebrating Restorative Justice Week!

Giving Tuesday is November 27th

On November 27th we celebrate #GivingTuesday. This is the perfect time to donate to BCBH and receive an end of year tax receipt! Giving Tuesday was created to remind people to donate to non-profit organizations and charities after Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

BCBH is supported solely by government and community grants plus your generous donations.  With your support we can upgrade needed office equipment (computers!), purchase office supplies, or provide a subsidized spot in our support groups.

Become a Helpline Volunteer!


Our Helpline volunteers are the heartbeat of our organization. Duties include providing compassionate listening and referral services for callers and emailers Monday - Friday, 9-5. Shifts are 4 hours. Training is available. A valuable addition to your resume! Please contact us at 604-738-9950 or email admin@bcbh.ca for more information.
