They Want a Park Gone

Light Rail is having a train go down in the middle of our roads.. at snail pace.

Well, I went to a meeting tonight in an effort to 'save' Hawthorn park from being divided by a road that would accommodate a train system, kind of like a streetcar called ALRT (rapid transit-which is NOT rapid at all). We in Surrey would be ending up with this train, instead of sky-train like everybody else has in the downtown core and other suburbs.
They had pictures and option A,B,C for development and we had a chance to give our thought on paper to the engineers, and developers. Our parks are disappearing for development, and all the dear wildlife would go with it. My angle of taking with the people, was that parks are de-stressors in our communities. Once it goes, no matter how hard they try in a new location to recreate the natural balance of the ecosystem, it would not happen for decades to come. I told them that due to our opioid, and mental health crisis, the  development of the park is not an option. We all need a place to walk in the forest, to see various wildlife and enjoy the fresh air. I heard that most of the parks have been bought up north of 88th Avenue in Surrey. Sadly, the likely result then is that town-homes would be built along the roads they are proposing as well. It is a no win situation, only if they withdraw from the entire plan all together. I just missed the camera man who left, when I was trying to track him down for my take of the situation. I spoke with the chief transportation guy, and he recognized me from an earlier cause. I shared Deborah's story with him, and how our youth deserve to have a place to de-stress from our concrete jungles. This is why light rail is no good..

The fact is that there is no land for the city to purchase to replace any parks. Buying a lot for a church is almost impossible, since they have a lower tax bracket than most plots, and therefore, shortage of land makes the scarcity a given.
