I simply can't believe the crazy realestate market in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia. I have 3 adult children now living with us, and realistically, they all need their own places. I just spoke with a friend and she is going to look at 30 offers on her home in Central Surrey. With foreign buyers, I don't know which young person can afford to buy their own homes. We are comfortable where we are, and eventually can re build on this property if the Lord tarries. We could put a three storey home up on this 7,200 sq ft lot. A tear down in the city would be many millions, so unless we move out of the city there seems to be no solution but for all of us to live together. Thankfully, I bought a 7 bedroom 5 bathroom, 2 kitchen plus home many years ago, because we knew we had to rely on rental income. My property tax is three thousand this year. Where will I get this sum from?? Who knows. Must trust God, as always. One day at a time is all we can do. Launching adult children, and putting pressure on them to move out is no solution, I'm afraid. Like my earlier post with the young man who survived his suicide attempt, his parent told him to leave, and he was afraid of being homeless. Sadly, many of us are insensitive to the difficulties our youth faces on minimal wage jobs. Lord forgive us if we exerted pressure on our youth that was harmful to them.
The pressure of the jobs, the commute, the high costs, the lack of time for social and rest time is eating away at our society. How can we teach our young people to find the right balance.
Today, I just expressed to my daughter that her taking on a part time job is still a wonderful achievement. She does not need to take on a full time job because she will burn out that way, especially in an emergency department as a nurse. We must built each other up, and help them to establish themselves for the long haul.
I just heard from a friend too that if the Green party and the NDP get in here in B.C. then there will be less construction, meaning fewer jobs. To me personally that means that the demand will be even higher for housing, because of scarcity. The geography of this area sadly does not facilitate for the city to grow up north because of the mountains. Vancouver cannot grow south because of the boarder with the United States, and sadly, it cannot grow west because of the Pacific Ocean. So here we are.. stuck.
