This blog has reached a readership of over 200K. I am very thankful that the discussion of suicide prevention is now a common occurrence. It is right in our faces as one would say. There are hundreds if not thousands of reasons why people are contemplating, and acting out their thoughts by taking their lives.
As I interact with my Japanese student who I have taken to 2 churchees today, an English speaking lively one, and a Japanese/English one in New Westminister, I can't help but notice how immature she behaves, and formulates her thought processes. All these foreign students have been to the University of British Columbia. They all have aspirations to study there one day, as they are groomed to one day come back to Canada and continue their studies in order to ultimately gain citizenship here.Every student purchased a UBC hoody sweater. I was thinking at one time when I saw the sweaters, that they were genuine UBC students only to realized they were simply visitors to Canada for a short period. Developmentally, it appears that they are years behind even intellectually when it comes to conversations, and understanding the world around them. No wonder that suicide is so high in countries such as Japan. The overwhelming realization that they cannot compete by standard means must make them extremely depressed, and the last thing they want is to disappoint their parents who have invested so highly in them. Perhaps I am wrong in my understanding of the situation, and perhaps students from other countries are different, but I find it more evident then ever, that early, and stable family relations and wisdom from God (Godly Parents) would nurture the children to success. Sadly, very many of these children are raised by the systems.. the daycares/kindergartens and schools that are socialist in nature, or communists. There is no reliance on God, to succeed. Their life story success is either via inheritance or plain human discipline of learning; knowledge obtained without God.. giving the teachers on paper what they want to hear. Also, very many diplomas are achieved by purchasing them. Very many degrees are sold for tens of thousands of dollars, and the recipient has no knowledge of their supposed trade/profession.
My communication with this student who has studied for 3 years, the English language that is, has been a total flop. I am using my voice, hands and feet to talk to her. Her electric dictionary cannot fuse words into sentences, or abstract meanings. I feel like I have let her down. My student admonishes staring back at me after I pose a question to her, or saying yes to everything. Take your pick.. I'm so frustrated.
